Here\'s were we depart from where most reviews of this product you might find on other sites on the web. Gonna install these babies they way they should be for proper audio goodness. Went to the store and got a load of goodies: Digital Coax Cable (for connecting to m-audio sound card), Digital Optical cable (to interface the PS2), and 200\' of 16AWG speaker wire (yes, the good stuff), and some 2.5\" lag bolts and washers.
Remove the brackets from the speakers using included hex key. Pre-drilled pilot holes. Since my walls are plaster, this is extra fun with the fine powder raining down on your face. Put the brackets up there and secured with lag bolts and washers through the mounting holes in the bracket.
Wire up the speaker and then attached them to the bracket. With the speaker in place, I can then work on routing my wire.
I had originally planned on going up into the attic to route my wires but an analysis of my room revealed an easier way. I have an old house equipped with picture molding about 2\" from the ceiling. It served as the perfect place to conceal/route the wiring. In the picture above, I have the wire hanging loose while I figure out the correct length to cut it. The above picture is the back of of my living room, these are the surround channels.
This is the front channels, the center channels going on the mantel.
Sub woofer and controller go in the home theatre box.... loose channel wires everywhere!! (Spongebob is doing his normal thing)
I got all the wires appropriately routed/hidden and hooked up. In a hurry to test it, I popped in \"The Professional\" DVD into the PS2 connected via the digital optical cable and WOW... I now understand what the big deal is now. The sound is so rich with the bass and the satellites are so clear and accurate. Then I popped in \"Enter the Matrix\" into the PS2 and I can no longer play a game through normal TV sound again... planes fly over in the cinematic jump scene and when the sound transfers from front to back as it passes over, the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
